I had a lovely day yeaterday at the flea market with my two daughters, now both teenagers. My eldest, now 17, observed how many teens there were at the flea market. I suppose that those kids have all grown up being shlept along to the flea market over the years and now they are teens seem to enjoy it too? My daughter loves to search out the vintage jewlery as inspiration for her own jewlery making. Another artist in the family :-)
I was and am so happy to find this fabric, above. I made a bee line for it as soon as I saw it. It is a neglected 1970's classic vintage floral, just a one of a kind. They don't make stuff like this any more only copies. I can't wait to make it into a knitting bag or two, a pillow maybe.......Its so beautiful and vivid in reality. We just loved it.
I just came across this little tape measure notion...again. I bought a vintage sewing basket in an antique mall, quite some time ago. The box was full of sewing items. I really didn't have time to go through it in the store, but I was excited to get the sewing items home and explore the items over a cup of tea. It was a thrill at the time, but I put the sewing basket away.
Today, I found the sewing basket all over again. Inside, I had forgotten about this little ladybird tape measure. I hadn't looked too closely back then, because today I realised that the black spots on her back are for pins. The ladybird is a pin cushion too! Too Cute even though she has a missing eye, I'll have to give her some eye surgery.
I am working on another Union Jack pillow cover from Debbie Bliss Knitting Magazine, Fall/Winter 2009. We (as a family) are still enjoying the finished item from the last time, photo below. It really does set the tone for the room, especially for us Brits living in California. I love it. So I decided to knit the black and white version of the pattern. I'm loving the sling Hobo knitting bag its so roomy and perfect for grabbing when on the run. So pretty too. I like to have different bags for different projects, keeps me organised.
