I have really enjoyed knitting the Alphabet blanket. It has really amused me with the changing of the letters and the adjustment of the holes for each letter or "yo's". I have been a little concerned about running out of yarn, so I have been searching eBay for the odd ball of yarn, that may be similar ~ with no luck.
I have completed the main body of the blanket with a few little problems, of which is the "partial" dropped stitch, lastly stressing over the border pattern yarn quantities. I realized I didn't have enough yarn to complete the border like the original pattern. So I needed to find another "economical" lace border pattern instead.
Out came all my knitting books and I became obsessed with designing the border, I searched through many books and different references. The original Debbie Bliss pattern has a geometric style squares and triangle lace and was searching for a new lace border with the triangle effects that would mimic Debbie Bliss pattern in a simpler fashion.
I came across an old pattern of a sweet lace border. I knitted a test swatch and it was perfect. I have posted the pattern under "Free Patterns" and below.
I decided that this border would work. I began the top edge of the blanket border and calculating how much yarn I would have left over.
At this point it looks like I'll have enough yarn to to complete the top and bottom only. I am knitting the border with the live stitches so that I won't have to sew anything at the end except maybe a few loose ends, love that!
